brown female ribbon at Alpacas in the Ozarks, held in Clarksville April 13-15.
Kalena Berry, age 14, and first time showman, who is the daughter of Alan and Laura Berry, showed Mirus.
An estimated 190 alpaca from as far away as Wisconsin and Colorado convened at Clarksville’s Foothills Arena on April 13-15. Kalena Berry, age 14, took top honors in the brown female Hycaya yearling class. The winning alpaca was named Mirus.
While this was not Mirus’ first turn in the show ring — she won color champion in 2006 as well — Berry, age 14, was a showstopper her first time out. Mirus is one quarter Bolivian and three quarters Peruvian. Kalena has a younger sister, Sebrina, who also showed at the event. The girls are the daughters of Alan and Laura Berry of Buffalo River Alpacas in Harrison.
In addition to the show competition, the event offered a variety of seminars, fiber sample judging, spinning exhibits and vendors of alpaca goods. Next year’s show, Arkansas Alpaca Adventure, will be held in Hot Springs.
